Sports Betting

North American sports betters can choose from three basic types of betting types:

  • Straight
  • Point Spreads
  • Moneylines

The straight bet is the simplest one; you simply place a bet on whichever team or person you think will win.

If you bet the point spread, you are trying to predict the number of points spread between the winning and losing scores of the two participating teams.

If you choose to bet moneylines, you are betting odds. The moneyline refers to the amount of money a person would need to win $100.00. The odds are expressed with a + or - sign in front of a number. In the first example (-150), you would have to bet $150 to win 100; with a moneyline of +150, you would win $150 for your $100 bet.
