How to Answer Fun Trick Questions
Take Your Time
Your first response to the question may not be the correct one, so give yourself a moment to reflect before responding.
The Information You Are Given May be Misleading
Consider the information you are given and decide whether you need to disregard it or whether it gives you a clue as to the correct answer.
If the Question Seems Too Easy, Then There May Be Something You Are Overlooking
Be suspicious of a question that seems to have an obvious answer, like "What color was Napoleon's white horse?" (You will find the answer to that one below.)
Have Fun With the Questions and Your Answers
These types of questions are supposed to be fun. If you really don't know the answer, don't be afraid to make up a response that will make the questioner (and anyone else present) laugh. The goal of being asked to answer fun trick questions is to have fun, after all!
Examples of Fun Trick Questions
What color is an aircraft's black box?
While this one may seem like an obvious question, a plane's flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorders are actually painted bright orange. The reason for this choice of color is so that they can be easily located after a crash.
In this case, the fact that you were given the object's color should have been a clue that the trick was in this detail.
To what type of animal is a koala bear most closely related?
Although these furry tree-dwellers may look like live Teddy bears, they are not bears at all. Koalas are not even related to bears; instead, they could be considered cousins of the wombat and the kangaroo.
Here is another situation where the person being answered the question should not automatically believe that all the information contained in the question is accurate.
What color was Napoleon's white horse?
Napoleon owned many horses, and a good number of them were gray Arabians. At a distance, this type of horse's coat would appear white.
Napoleon's "white" horse only appeared white.
How long did the Hundred Years War last?
This one may seem obvious (100 years) but the conflict referred to as the Hundred Years war took place from 1337 to 1453. England and France were the combatants of this dispute, which started when King Edward III announced that he was King of France in addition to being England's ruler.
Once again, you can see that the trick is in the details given in the question.
How much dirt is in a hole measuring two feet by two feet?
The correct answer is that there is no dirt. It's a hole, after all.
The person being asked the question may have been thrown off by the dimensions given. In this case, they don't add anything the person needs to know. It's extra information being given to throw the person off when they try to answer it.
How many months have 28 days?
The right answer to this question is all of them. You need to listen carefully to the question being asked. The question was not, "How many months have only 28 days?" Every month has at least 28 days; most months have more.
If you are looking for a way to have fun, trick questions are one way to do so. Who knows, the person trying to answer the questions might learn something new as well!
